FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
World-Renowned Preservation Hall Jazz Band to Appear at
Lone Tree Arts Center on March 11
February 14, 2023 - LONE TREE, CO – Coming this March, the Lone Tree Arts Center is proud to present the New Orleans staple, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band in a special engagement. Stopping in Lone Tree on their 2023 tour, this powerhouse group is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the storied New Orleans music hall that is their namesake.
Preservation Hall is a small space with a big history. Hailed as the home of New Orleans jazz, the performance space gives audiences an intimate look at the music that makes up the DNA of the city itself. Within its long performance history, Preservation Hall and its band have reflected the cultural melting pot of New Orleans – African, Caribbean, and European musical traditions became melded to form a distinctive sound.
During a time of persecution and segregation in the south, Preservation Hall was the rare space where racially-integrated bands and audiences shared music together. This spirit of inclusion, followed by national press attention, led manager and tuba player Allan Jaffe, to form the Preservation Hall Jazz Band for their first tour in 1963.
Now, with their stop at the Lone Tree Arts Center, audiences in the Denver metro region can experience this unique ensemble in the same intimate way as in their New Orleans homebase. The Lone Tree Arts Center Main Stage Theater features a design that brings the audience inside the arts with seats that are no greater than 60 feet from the stage and offers acoustics that highlight the virtuosic playing of these great jazz masters.
“Touring is a part of our ritual,” says Ben Jaffe, creative director of Preservation Hall. “It’s our tradition. When my parents began touring with the band in the early 60s, they were bringing something that most people didn’t even know existed to stages all over the world. It was this magnificent revelation to people that something so beautiful could even exist. People come to Preservation Hall and have transformative experiences, and that’s part of our mission: to go out in the world and make that experience available to people.”
