Grupo Huitzliopolchi performs in front of the Denver Art Museum

About the event

Grupo Huitzilopochtli was founded by Capitan Raul Chavez who immigrated to Colorado from Mazatlan, Mexico in 1969. He brought his knowledge of the traditional Aztec dances of his ancestors. For almost half a century, Raul Chavez maintained an open-door policy welcoming all who wish to celebrate Mexica culture through danza. Recognizing the indigenous roots of all people, this group embraces diversity and strives to instill compassion, stewardship, and tolerance through the arts. Grupo Huitzilopochtli has a deep commitment to community, providing school programs, and free weekly classes for youth and elders to learn about the traditional ceremonial and artistic teachings of the Mexica people.
