Sensory Inclusive Journey to Oz
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte and Experiential Theater Company
4pm
About the event
The works of L. Frank Baum are numerous and his tales of Dorothy and her adventures in Oz are his most beloved. In this fantastic new adaptation, we are invited to go to Oz with Dorothy as audience members become a part of an experiential production, singing and dancing, and acting alongside professional actors. When the cyclone comes, the entire theater enters the eye of the storm with whisking lights and exciting music created by Barrymore Award winning composer, Josh Totora.

What makes these performances sensory-inclusive?
These hour long performances are modified to create a welcoming and supportive environment for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities. Performers and LTAC staff work together to ensure there are no startling noises or visually over-stimulating components. Our team keeps sound levels lower than normal and keeps the lights in the audience higher than normal, ensuring audience members can see each other. Audience members are free to come and go if need be (there is always a “quiet room” available) and are asked to wave hands rather than clapping.
