The Heavenly Harp

Harps aren’t just for angels to play. Many great composers have appreciated the harp and written ensemble pieces for it, often combined with other string instruments—though ones with fewer strings than harps. This program, hosted by Betsy Schwarm and featuring harpist Courtney Hershey Bress, violinist Yumi Hwang Williams, violist Phillip Stevens, and some of their Colorado Symphony colleagues, offers music for harp and strings by composers Gabriel Fauré, Marcel Tournier, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Ricardo Lorenz. You’ll also gain insight into exactly how a harp works—as well as how one tunes all those strings.
