Denver Concert Band Young Artist Concert

In this annual tradition, the Denver Concert Band will feature a young artist for this concert. The featured musican is the winner of the Young Artist Competition which is open to all area high school seniors who play a band instrument. The winner recieves a $2,000 scholarship. This year, French Horn player Caroline Baker will join the DCB to perform Richard Strauss' Concerto No.1 in E-flat Major, Op 11. Caroline is a senior at Littleton High School and was a finalist for the Arapahoe Philharmonic Collegiate Concerto Competition and was principal horn, All-State orchestra and All-State band.
In addition to featuring the Young Artist Winner, the theme for this concert is "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" which will feature a delightful combination of "deviltry"and sea-inspired tunes. The "Satanic" side of the equation includes Robert W. Smith's brilliant "Divine Comedy:", based on Dante's classic story of man's passage from Hell to Paradise., along with selections from "Wicked" and Philip Sparke's "Sunrise at Angel's Gate". The contrasting "Deep Blue Sea" segment will feature a collection of oceanic works including Sousa's "Hands Across the Sea", Richard Rodgers' "Victory at Sea" and Karrick's "See" Rock City. All-in-all, this promises to be a "Divine" musical experience for the listening audience!
