“Davina Sowers is a one-of-a-kind performer whose singing… has a sassiness bearing some comparison to that of heart-thumping blues queens Ma Rainey and Ida Cox.” —Downbeat
“Hot Club of Cowtown swung light and tight, like tumbleweeds made of velvet.”—Rochester City Paper
Davina Sowers and the Vagabonds have created a stir on the national music scene with their high-energy live shows, top-level musicianship, sharp-dressed professionalism, and Sowers’ commanding stage presence. She’s been compared to Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, and Betty Boop, but comparisons don’t suffice: Sowers is a true original. The Western swing- gypsy jazz trio Hot Club of Cowtown is inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt— which accounts for the “Hot Club” portion of their name—and the hoedowns, traditional tunes, and Western swing-inspired music of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, represented in the “Cowtown” of their name. The two bands team up for The Finest Hour, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the music that ended WWII.
