The Denver Concert Band usually features a guest artist at its winter concert, but in 2020 they are shaking things up! This year, they will feature a guest composer, Robert W. Smith, who will be conducting a commissioned piece he wrote especially for the DCB. Mr. Smith is a masterful composer of concert band music and they're very excited to perform the premiere of his work. The “Songs of Storms” will conjure imagery from gentle showers to clashing tempests, including the well-known “A Night on Bald Mountain” by Mussorgsky. Expect a stormy and dynamic evening with the DCB and guest conductor, Robert W. Smith, and be prepared for “thunderous” applause!
2020 will be the 59th year that since the Denver Concert Band began performing concerts for Denver and Surrounding communities. A community band of 90 volunteer musicians, the DCB performance concerts year around in the Denver Metro Area and throughout Colorado. Known for their uniquely sonorous bass, powerful brass, sparkling woodwinds and dynamic percussion, their concert repertoire has something for everyone. The DCB has performed in Europe and at several music conventions as well as neighboring states.
Within the DCB is a group called the Show and Tell Band, (SATB) that performs throughout the school year in schools, senior living and a variety of other events. The principal focus of the SATB is to educate people from kindergarten to seniors about band instruments and music. The DCB is thrilled to be returning to the Lone Tree Arts Center for their formal concerts again this year, and they look forward to performing exciting concerts for their patrons.
