Arts in the Afternoon
Voyage a Paris
|No events found.|
Soprano Margaret Ozaki Graves is joined by a tenor and pianist for a musical celebration of the City of Lights. Named for a famous song of the same title by Francis Poulenc, selections cross various genres and national styles of vocal music, expressing the magic of Paris through song. Repertoire includes the Act I “love at first sight” scene from Puccini’s La bohème in Italian and soaring French arias from a lesser known Bohemian love story—Charpentier’s opera Louise. French Art Song selections by Poulenc, Hahn, and Faure—as well as American Art Songs by Rorem and Musto—demonstrate the inspiration Paris has had upon poetry and music alike. The program is rounded out by “Impressionistic” solo piano repertoire and classic musical theatre hits from shows set in Paris (ranging from Can-Can to Les Misérables).
